ATC listener, Kyle, wrote in to ask us to compile a list of quality audio entertainment for a long road trip. We informed Kyle that we would happily do this for him and post our final list on the blog for the benefit of everyone. We really enjoyed putting this together and we hope that it will be a good resource for you.

When we began to put this list together, we approached the task from the following perspective:

In order for one to really pass the time quickly on a road trip by enjoying audio entertainment, then that entertainment should

a.      Have a total length of about an hour (slightly less is acceptable)
b.      Be either an action/adventure/suspense –filled story or have an emotionally engaging plot to hold one’s attention

Also, our recommendations are in line with our goal for Audio Theatre Central; all of the productions must have a high level of quality in acting and production and must be family friendly.

We want to mention that if you have younger children then you might be ok with shorter stories and we recognize that so we have some recommendations for those in that scenario too.

Lastly, the productions below are not listed in any particular order of importance, but are categorized by type, producer/series, and recommended audience.
