As Christians, Easter is a very special time of the year. A time to reflect on Christ's sacrifice for our sins. And as audio drama fans, we appreciate when producers take the Greatest Story Ever Told and tell it in this medium. It's amazing to hear these events come to life in this way.

There are lots of various audio drama productions with themes related to Easter so we decided to compile this list and share it with you. The following are some of our favorite Easter-themed audio dramas. This is not a ranked list, just some great content that you're sure to enjoy.

This adaptation of the classic historical novel is superbly done. While it encompasses much more than the story of Jesus, his crucifixion is an essential point in the plot of the life of Judah Ben-Hur.

Aimed at the little listeners in the family, this musical dramatization of the story of Jesus' passion is so well done that in can be enjoyed by all ages. The songs are catchy and fun while still driving home the point of the story in a relatable way.

Another re-telling of the story of Christ's death, burial and resurrection from a new point of view, Suddenly One Morning, shows how Jesus's life had an impact on the everyday citizens of the time. This is an extremely well-done production in every way.

Easter Story
Word of Promise

While not an audio drama in the strictest sense of the term, this does have the major elements; a full cast, musical score and sound effects. But since it is a narration of the text of Scripture it is not an audio drama script. This program combines the story of Jesus' crucifixion as told by each of the Gospels, into a single chronological narrative which is read by a full cast.

The Twelve Voices of Easter
Back to the Bible

Produced in the same style as their 12 Voices of Christmas, this series of monologues from Back to the Bible tells the story of Easter through a first-person perspective from the people who witnessed them, such as Judas, Pilate, Peter, and the thief on the cross. Though not quite audio drama, these are well-written accounts that add a “realness” to the story that helps bring it to life.

Nick Guy & the Empty Tomb Affair

The Nick Guy series is similar to the Old Time Radio detective shows with a few differences; Nick is not the brightest bulb in the pack, comedy is a big part of the show, and the writers strive to teach biblical truths through the cast of quirky characters. This release was the first of the series and tackles the mystery of the empty tomb.

How the Grimm Stole Easter
The Human Eel Apologetics Series

This show is a spinoff from the Nick Guy, Private Eye series from Dominion Artists and it tackles apologetics with a comedic twist and features the superhero, The Human Eel. This particular volume is a spoof on the story of the Grinch and runs about an hour and 15 minutes.


End Of Darkness
Bible Actors Productions

The way the story is framed is quite unique. It starts after Jesus’ crucifixion and then uses flashbacks to tell what happened before that time. It is definitely a more original way to present the oft retold and greatest story ever. (Read our review and get purchase links here.)


The Gospel of Mark

Similar to the Word of Promise Easter Story above, this production also features a word for word performance of biblical text. In this case, they use the Williams translation of the book of Mark and couple it with outstanding performances from a cast of over 30 actors along with an original score and immersive soundscapes.
